Ingrid Mattson is a Muslim religious leader, a scholar of Islamic Studies and an expert in interfaith religions. She was a Professor of Islamic Studies at Hartford Seminary in CT. She developed and directed the first accredited graduate program for Muslim chaplains in America. She also served as Director of Macdonald Centre for the Study of Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations. Dr Mattson is the London and Windsor Community Chair in Islamic Studies at Huron University in Canada. From 2001 to 2010 she also served as vice president, later becoming president of Islamic Society of North America. She is the first woman to serve in either position. She was a member of Interfaith Taskforce of the White House Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships from 2009 to 2010. In 2008 she served on the Council of Global Leaders of C-100 of the World Economic Forum. She is the Senior Fellow at the Royal Aal-al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought in Jordon.
Her writings focus primarily on Qur’an interpretation, Islamic theological ethics and interfaith relations. The story of the Qur’an is an academic beset-seller book of hers and was chosen by the US National Endowment for the Humanities.
Dr Mattson is the recipient of various awards and honorary. She received her honorary doctorates from Trinity College Hartford and the Chicago Theological Seminary. She has been listed in the 500 Most Influential Muslims from 2009 to 2012 continuously. She was also presented Muslim Visionaries Award in 2011 for her exceptional contributions as a public servant.
