Asma bin Yazid Al Sakan (may Allah be pleased with her) was a 7th century Muslim warrior and companion of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in the battle of Khyber. She belonged to a family of brave fighters. She was distinguished for her sagacity and eloquence. Because of her well-articulated and convincing statements, she was called the Orator of all Women.
She was keen on jihad and joined Muslim armies on various occasions. When the Qurayish tribe of Makah opposed Islam, the Prophet asked his companions to pledge fight against them if the need arose. Asma was amongst those who pledged. And a few years after the Prophet (PBUH), she fulfilled her pledge by joining the Muslims to fight against the byzantine army. She took part in the fighting and killed many opponents.
She was also a woman of learning and was clearly a reliable reporter. From the authentic books of Hadiths, there are total of 81 hadiths reported by her. As such, she ranks among the best learned of the Prophet’s women companions.Later in her life she stayed in Syria and taught women about islam.
