Hawa Abdi Diblaawe

Dr. Hawa Abdi Diblaawe was a human rights activist and physician from Somalia. She was also the founder and chairperson of Hawa Abdi Foundation (DHAF). It is a non-profit organization that provides emergency relief to Somalia and has helped around two million people till date. The aim of the foundation is to create access to basic human rights by building institutions in healthcare, agriculture, education and social entrepreneurship. Dr Hawa became the living proof of how each individual especially a Muslim woman alone, is capable of. She is often referred to as Saint of Somalia.

She was named Hiiraan Online’s Person of the Year award in 2007. Glamour Magazine named her among 2010 Women of the Year list. She was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. She later received the Women of Impact Award from WITWF Foundation. She was also the recipient of BET’s Social Humanitarian Award and the John Jay Medal for Justice.

Dr Hawa received the Roosevelt Four Freedom Award in 2014.
