Mame Madior Boye was the Prime Minister of Senegal from the year 2001 to 2002. Being the first female holder of that position in her country, Boye was known for her strong feminist ideals. She had frequently raised women’s concerns in her time of government. Boye spent most of her career in Senegalese’s administration of justice. She founded and was president of the Association of Senegalese Lawyers from 1975 to 1990. She was Deputy Public Procedure, and a judge. She then became the Director of Engagements for the West African Banking Company CBAO from 1990 to 2000. Boye was respected as thoughtful, professional, bright and honest women. She was a militant feminist. Boye remained as Minister of Justice in the new government. With her being the Prime minster, the representation of women increased in Senegal. Later in 2004 she was appointed as the African Unions Special Representative for the protection and promotion of civilians in armed conflicts.
