Megawati Sukarnoputri served as Indonesia’s first and only female president from 2001 to 2004. She is the present leader of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P). It is one of the largest political parties in Indonesia. She is known for her efforts to stabilize the overall democratization progression and the relationship between executive and military organizations of the country. She is the only vice president born after Indonesia proclaimed its independence. She has also served as the country’s vice president and the most recent vice president to have been younger than the president. She is the eldest daughter of Indonesia’s first president Sukarno, who declared the country’s independence from Netherlands. Megawati received an honorary degree in politics from the Institute of Public Administration in 2018. The Fujian Normal University awarded her an Honorary Doctorate in 2018. Her other doctorates are from Waseda University Tokyo 2001, Moscow State Institute of International Relations in Russia 2003 and Mokpo National University in South Korea 2017.
