Roza Otunbayeva

Roza Otunbayeva served as the president of Kyrgyzstan in 2010. She graduated from the Philosophy faculty of Moscow State University. In 1981 she worked as regional undersecretary of the Communist Party in Kyrgyz. Year after Kyrgyzstan gained its independence from Soviet Union in 1992; Otunbayeva was named the country’s first ambassador. She served as ambassador from the Krygyz Republic to Canada, United States and United Kingdom. She was elevated then as foreign minister of krygyz. She later acted as United Nations representative to Georgia. In her period as the Prime minster, she was credited to bring stability in Krygyz. On 2012 Otunbayeva established the International Public Foundation “Roza Otunbayeva Initiative”. The objective of the foundation is to implement programs and projects that will contribute to the social, economic and political development of Krygz Republic.

In 2011 Otunbayeva was listed as one of the 150 Most Influential Women in the World by Newsweek-Daily Beast.

She has received France’s Legion of Honor Award with the degree of Commander. She was also ranked as the highest order of Mongolia’s Polar Star Award.

For occupying the highest institutional role in Krygyztan and for her international activities promoting democracy and peace, she was awarded the Premio Minerva Medallion. She also received the International Women of Courage Award in 2011 by the United States Department of State. In 2012 the Eurasia Foundation USA awarded her with the Bill Maynes Award for demonstrating visionary leadership in her country. She is an Honorary Professor at Shanghai University of Political Science and Law and at the Ganjavi University Azerbaijan.
