Tansu Çiller

Tansu Çiller is Turkey’s first and only female Prime Minister and the leader of Truth Path Party.

Ciller graduated from the School of Economics and received her PhD from the University of Connecticut. She became the youngest professor of Turkey. Ciller used her identity as a woman and a mother to achieve the liberal vote. She used her identity being a Muslim to ally with an Islamic Focused party. She served from 1993 to 1996. Her tenancy as Prime Minister took place during intensified armed conflict amid the Turkish Armed forces and Kurdish separatists. Alongside being a Prime Minister of Turkey, she served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs in the year 1996 and 1997.

She encouraged more female inclusive identity in Turkey, giving Turkish women a chance to forge coalitions and making their way in Turkish society.

Ciller has been awarded honorary doctorates from several universities including a PhD from Keio University Japan in 1995. She also received Doctorates from Mahdum Kulu State in Turkmenistan in 1995 and from the American University at Girne Cyprus in 2001.
